CHANDIGARH - A man was arrested on the charge of killing his wife for dowry while three others were booked in the case here Monday, police said.

Naresh Kumar is accused of killing his wife Sangeet Sunday by giving her poison.

“We got a complaint from the deceased’s father Prithvi Singh that Sangeet’s in-laws were harassing her to bring more cash and dowry items. Based on the complaint we have registered a case against the deceased’s husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law,” a police officer said.

He added: “So far we have only arrested the accused husband. However, we are waiting for the post mortem examination report and our investigation is still on. We can make more arrests once it is over.”

Sangeet, a resident of Sector 20 here, had married Naresh, who lives here in Sector 27, in April this year.

This is a barbaric act which asks for stringent measures to control such incidents. Though we are steadily growing as a developed nation but these shameful acts against women are pushing us to older times.
Incidents like these must be handled seriously more so because an educated family is involved in this uncivilzed act.
What message do these incidents spread in the unmarried community of girls who have an increasing fear of physical torture or worst a death.
This is a shameful act and a blot on our society as the loss to girl’s family cannot be compensted even if such bastards are hanged publicaly.
My only question is that what measures can our respected ministers take so that girls can mix up with in laws without any fear after such incidents???????
