BHOPAL, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Arjun Singh who happens to be one of the major accused in the Bhopal gas tragedy has spoken out for the first time to media after the Bhopal gas tragedy verdict was declared by the court. Reportedly, Arjun Singh is said to be the man who had helped the Union Carbide Plant CEO Warren Anderson to flee from India at the time of the incident.
Arjun Singh like most of the other accused in the Bhopal gas tragedy had refrained from making any comment on the case. However, in a recent meet with the media Arjun Singh said that he is disturbed at the allegations that has been hurled against him. It was said that the orders to help Warren Anderson flee from the country was issued by Arjun Singh who in turn told the media that he was following the orders of Rajiv Gandhi who was then the Prime Minister of India.
When the gas leak incident took place 25 years back the Agriculture secretary for the state was R.C Jain who told the investigators how Arjun Singh had issued the orders to make arrangements for Warren Anderson to escape the scene in a state government airplane. As a mater of fact, R.C Jain was the very first one to have disclosed the information to the investigating officers of the case which helped them to get their hands on to the other associates of Union Carbide Plant who were involved in the case. On the other hand, Arjun Singh made it clear in front of the media that the Indian Government was under tremendous pressure from the American government and Mr. Rajiv Gandhi was forced to take the decision which he felt was right for the moment.
