Bhopal Gas Tragedy Verdict Out Today

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Bhopal Gas Tragedy which has rolled into two decades of its occurrence shall witness the ultimate verdict by the local court on June 7, Monday. The Bhopal Gas Tragedy happens to be one of the serious mishaps of all time which took the lives of thousands who were killed by the poisonous Methyl isocyanate that was released from the Union Carbide plant. The Bhopal Gas Tragedy took place way back in the year of 1984 but till now many young children suffer from serious disorders owing to the harmful aftermath of Methyl isocyanate inhalation.

Warren Anderson is the chief accused in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Wareen Anderson happens to be the chairman of Union Carbide Corporation. He along with Keshub Mahindra (ex-chairman of Union Carbide India Ltd) and 12 other accused shall go on trial on Monday in front of the local court. It was in the year of 1987, when CBI came up with a charge sheet which said that Bhopal Gas Tragedy is a serious homicide which puts the accused behind the bars for not less than 10 years. To this the Supreme court adopted a dilution method and declared that the death is caused by negligence and the maximum punishment for the accused is for a period of 2 years.

It was also said that the number of deaths in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy was manipulated. The actual number of deaths was more than what was mentioned in the official records which said that it was only one lakh and eight thousand. The Bhopal Gas Tragedy survivors received much less than what they were promised as compensation and some even complained that they received nothing.
