RANCHI - Four people were killed — including two who were burnt alive — in a clash in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj district, police said Thursday.

“One Sammad Ansari had gone, along with another person, to Lakshmi village of Sahebganj district allegedly to kill a person. The villagers surrounded Ansari and his associate and they were burnt alive in a house,” Vinay Kumar Pandey, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Santhal Pargana region told IANS over telephone.

“Two more people were later killed in a gunbattle between police and criminals in the same village,” the official added.

Senior police officials have rushed to Sahebganj, about 500 km from here, to take stock of the situation. Details of the incident are awaited.

“We have initial reports and we are trying to verify what went wrong which resulted in such an incident,” Pandey said.
