Two Maoists held for Rs.5 crore heist

RANCHI - Two Maoist rebels allegedly involved hijacking an ICICI bank delivery van and looting Rs.5 crore from it were arrested Wednesday, police said.

According to police, Maoist rebel Chaitnaya Munda and another Maoist were arrested from jungle area around 70 Km from Ranchi. The second rebel was not identified.

“Munda is an area commander of the banned CPI-Maoist (Communist Party of India-Maoist). They were involved in hijacking an ICICI delivery van in May 2007 and killing a police officer in July the same year,” a police official said.

Police seized one pistol and live cartridges from the two arrested rebels.
