Bhopal Gas Tragedy Convicts Granted Bail

BHOPAL, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) Bhopal Gas Tragedy case which convicted seven associates of Union Carbide India Ltd has been granted bail by the local court. The court released them after a bail payment of Rs.25,000. Prior to this the court had convicted eight accused associates of the plant out of one happens to be deceased. Reportedly, they were all sentenced for a two year prison as the primary verdict for Bhopal Gas Tragedy was declared.
Coming to know of the court’s verdict, the family members of Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims held a massive protest outside the court and said that they would approach the High Court of Madhya Pradesh for a much more strict punishment for the convicted people. Bhopal Magistrate’s court imposed a total fine of Rs. 500,000 upon Union Carbide India Limited. As a matter of fact the leak of Methyl Isocyanate gas from the Union Carbide Plant resulted in the death of several thousands. To make matters worse, many infants have witnessed health disorders due to the aftermath of the toxic gas.
The legal experts told the media that they believe that the Monday verdict of Bhopal Gas Tragedy is unacceptable. They have strongly criticized the verdict of the court and said that the court has been too lenient on the accused who should have been put behind the bars and not released on bail. The Bhopal Gas Tragedy case shall soon roll into further hearing as one of the major accused in the case Warren Anderson, the Ex-Chairman of Union Carbide has been declared as an “Absconder” as he had been away from all trials in the Indian court.
