Report: 16 killed in Bangladesh road accident
DHAKA, Bangladesh — Local media report a passenger bus has collided with a truck loaded with mango in southwestern Bangladesh, killing at least 16 people and injuring 50 others.
The United News of Bangladesh agency says the accident occurred early Wednesday in Bagerhat district, 85 miles (136 kilometers) south of the capital, Dhaka.
The agency, quoting police and witnesses, says all the victims died at the scene while the injured have been hospitalized.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, and officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
About 4,000 people die each year in such accidents in Bangladesh, mainly because of dilapidated roads and lax traffic rules.
