I keep fit for health, not for glamour: Sonali Bendre (Interview)

MUMBAI - Actress Sonali Bendre is looking trimmer than ever and says she works out regularly — not to look glamorous but to keep herself fit.

“I have been working out regularly for the last two months and that is why you see a change in me. But it is purely for health reasons that I started exercising and taking care of my body,” Sonali told IANS.

“I never used to work out earlier. I was quite happy with that, but some time back I realised that I have to keep myself fit… and I don’t mean thin, I mean fit in terms of health. For that it is very important to work out regularly.”

Sonali, who came for the launch of the second season of reality show “India’s Got Talent” here Tuesday, looked ravishing in a long fitted dress that had shades of green, white and black. She will be one of the judges on the show along with director Sajid Khan and actress Kirron Kher.

The 35-year-old, who worked in films like “Major Saab”, “Sarfarosh”, “Zakhm”, “Hum Saath Saath Hain” and “Humara Dil Aapke Pass Hai” among others, took a break after getting married to director Goldie Behl in 2002.

Movies are not on the cards right now.

“No plans of acting right now. I have never planned my career moves; so I can’t talk about the future, but nothing at the moment on the acting front.”

But she is not averse to being part of television shows.

Talking about her role as a judge on “India’s Got Talent”, she said: “I will try my best to bring out talent that is truly deserving and entertaining this year too. We had some really amazing people last time and we will try to raise the bar this time.”

“What I love about this show is that there is no age bar. Last time we had grandmothers coming up, mothers with grown up daughters coming for the show. That was so beautiful. There were so many women who had talent but probably never got an opportunity to come out and actually show it.”

With her television commitments, and her four-year-old son, how does she juggle her personal and professional life?

“I have not faced any problem till now. The dates are nicely spaced out, if I’m out the whole day, then the previous day is spent with my child… I try and balance out in a way that I give him quality time as well.”

And any plans of getting into production like many actors today?

“I’m married in a film family and we have our own production. So it’s not that I have to go out and then get into production. I’m already into it,” said Sonali.
