GHAZIABAD - The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) Tuesday launched a drive to seal illegally installed mobile phone towers in the city, an official said.

On Tuesday, the GDA sealed two mobile phone towers - one in Vaishali and the other in Raj Nagar.

“It is a start. We will seal all the illegal mobile towers in the city that were detected during verification process conducted by the authority,” said GDA vice-chairman Narendra Chaudhary.

As many as 615 mobile towers were found to have been installed in different areas of the city. Of these, only four towers were found registered with the authority.

As many as 611 towers were detected operating illegally and notices were issued to operators of 417 towers a few months back.

“When the authority did not receive a satisfactory reply from the tower owners, the authority started the sealing drive from today (Tuesday),” Chaudhary said.
