Couple gets prison for deadly USC hit-and-run

LOS ANGELES — A couple whose hit-and-run crash killed a University of Southern California student and badly injured another have been sentenced to prison.

Claudia Cabrera got eight years and her husband, Josue Luna, got seven during Monday’s hearing in Los Angeles.

Authorities say Cabrera was driving on a suspended license and had her 7-month-old son in the car when it struck and killed 18-year-old Adrianna Bachan in 2009 in a crosswalk near the USC campus.

The car also hit 19-year-old Marcus Garfinkle, whose legs were broken. Authorities say he was carried up to 400 feet on the windshield until the car stopped, Luna pulled him off and left him in the street.

The couple pleaded no contest to hit-and-run. Cabrera also pleaded to vehicular manslaughter.
