LUCKNOW - Three members of a family were found murdered in their home in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district, police said Saturday.

The decomposed bodies of Satyawati, a 60-year-old widow, her son and daughter were recovered from their house in Hathipur locality Friday night, an official said. Lakhimpur is some 150 km from Lucknow.

“We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the incident. The crime was not committed with an intention of loot as the valuables in the house are not missing,” police inspector P.K. Mishra told reporters in Lakhimpur.

“It appears all three were attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. Investigations are on,” he added.

Satyawati had been living with her 28-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter in the house for the last several years.

The three bodies were recovered when residents of the area approached the police after a foul smell started emanating from Satyawati’s residence.

The neighbours were under the impression that Satyawati and her two children were not at home as the main gates were locked from outside, Mishra said.
