MUMBAI - A man was killed and another injured Monday after a gas cylinder exploded in a chemical factory in Tarapur town of Maharashtra’s Thane district, officials said.

The blast occurred at around noon at Rajendra Chemical Factory in the town, about 90 km north of Mumbai. “Although there was no fire, we got a rescue call, as one person had died in the blast,” a fire brigade official said.

The deceased, 20-year-old Karamnath Dudhnath Prajapati was badly mutilated in the blast, the official said, adding that the body has been sent to the Tarapur civil hospital for post-mortem examination.

This is the second incident of death due to a gas cylinder blast in Thane district in the last two days. A 60-year-old woman was burnt to death in a fire due to a cylinder blast at a multi-storeyed residential complex in Ghatkopar.
