Mexico, May 16 (IANS/EFE) A former presidential candidate for Mexico’s ruling National Action Party (PAN) was kidnapped from the central Mexican state of Queretaro, the federal Attorney General’s Office (PGR) said.

The AG office said that Friday “it learned that Diego Fernandez de Cevallos has gone missing” and his vehicle was found near his La Cabana ranch in Pedro Escobedo showing signs of violence.

Some of his belongings were found in the vehicle, it said in a statement Saturday.

Fernandez de Cevallos was PAN’s presidential candidate in the 1994 election, which he lost to Ernesto Zedillo.

Fernandez, 69, was a federal legislator 1991-1994 and a senator between 2000 and 2006.
