GHAZIABAD - A criminal carrying a reward on his arrest was killed in a gunfight with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district Sunday, police said.

“An Indigo car and a 9 mm pistol were recovered from his possession,” Superintendent of Police Rural M.M. Baig said.

Ajay alias Akash alias Pintoo, a resident of village Walipur in Bulandshahr district, was killed in the gunfight around 3 p.m. on Reliance power project road under the Pilkhuwa police station, he said.

Police said two persons while travelling in an Indigo car were asked to stop for checking at National Highway-24 on Sunday afternoon. Instead, they diverted their car on the Reliance power project road and started firing at police.

Police returned the fire and after a few minutes Ajay’s body was found lying in a ditch near the road. His accomplice managed to flee, police said.

Ajay was identified from a driving licence found in his pocket, police said.

Over 15 criminal cases were registered against him in different police stations of Ghaziabad. A reward of Rs.50,000 had been announced for information leading to his arrest by Bulandshahr police, police said.
