2 NYPD officers killed, 4 people hurt in car wreck

NEW YORK — Authorities say two off-duty New York City police officers were killed and four people were injured when the car they were all riding in hit a guardrail in the city’s Bronx borough.

Police say a car was headed north Sunday morning on the Bronx River Parkway when it crashed.

The two officers were pronounced dead at the scene. The other four people in the car were in serious but stable condition at a hospital. The victims’ names have not been released.

Police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing and would not comment on whether tests for drugs or alcohol were being conducted.

The two deaths come on the same day another NYPD officer was gravely injured in Brooklyn when he was accidentally hit by a motorcycle while he was chasing suspects in a car theft.
