LUCKNOW - Frustrated at being frequently scolded for not being serious towards his studies, a class 12 student shot dead his policeman father and grandmother here Friday, police said.
Seventeen-year-old Utkarsh Sahu, a student of the Mahanagar Boys Inter College (MBIC) pursuing science, allegedly shot dead the two with the service revolver of his father Rama Shankar (47), a head constable.
Sahu then shot at one of his arms in order to misguide the police. The incident happened Friday morning in the police lines colony at Mahanagar.
“Sahu told us that while he was preparing to go to the school, some unidentified assailants killed his father and grandmother, but we have clinching evidence suggesting the student himself committed the double murder,” inspector R.K. Gupta told reporters here.
“Sahu later confessed to the crime and is being treated for his injuries at the Balrampur hospital. He is out of danger,” Gupta added.
Though the student claims he is a minor, police have decided to conduct medical examination of the student to ascertain his age.
“If he really turns out be a minor, he would be produced before the Juvenile court and could later be sent to a juvenile home,” said Gupta.
A few days ago, Sahu’s mother and younger sister had left for one of their relative’s place and were not present at the time of the incident.
Sahu told the police that he committed the crime in a fit of rage as his father and grandmother frequently scolded him for not studying.
When contacted, MBIC principal James K.C. told IANS: “I am aware of the incident, but am not supposed to discuss anything with the press. Let the enquiry be completed.”
