Small wildfire erupts in Southern California

PEDLEY, Calif. — Fire spread across about 20 acres of brushy hills Wednesday in Southern California, forcing evacuation of a mobile home community.

Winds up to 15 mph pushed the fire, which erupted about 1:30 p.m. in the unincorporated Glen Avon area of northwestern Riverside County.

Sheriff’s deputies were evacuating the Santiago Estates Mobile Home Park, the county Fire Department said.

The number of evacuees was not known. No injuries were reported.

The mobile home park sits at the foot of hills surrounded by development about 50 miles east of Los Angeles.

Southern California has had blustery and dry weather this week, but the winds Wednesday were southwesterly, not the sometimes fierce northeasterly Santa Anas that typically blow in the fall and fan the region’s worst wildfires.
