LUCKNOW - Six minor girls were killed and seven others injured when an earth mound caved in on them in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district Thursday, police said.

The mishap took place in the afternoon at the Mainakher town, where a group of children were digging earth to use it for construction purpose.

“While the six girls died on the spot after getting buried under the mound, we managed to rescue seven others,” police Inspector Veerpal Singh told reporters in Moradabad, some 350 km from Lucknow.

“All those killed were in the age group of 7-18 years. Of the seven injured, the condition of three is stated to be critical,” he added.
