Obama to meet families of NY plane crash victims
BUFFALO, N.Y. — President Barack Obama will meet briefly with relatives of people who died when their plane crashed into a New York home.
Family members have been pressing Washington for airline safety improvements on regional carriers since Continental Connection Flight 3407 crashed near Buffalo early last year, killing all 49 people on board and a man in the house.
Obama will be in Buffalo on Thursday to talk about the economy. White House spokesman Bill Burton says Obama also will meet privately with the Flight 3407 family members to offer his condolences.
The families are seeking more stringent safety measures in the final version of a Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill.
A federal investigation pinned the cause of the crash on a mistake by the flight’s captain.
