Two killed in Haryana distillery fire

CHANDIGARH - Two workers of a private distillery in Haryana were burnt to death in a fire that broke out in the plant Wednesday, police said.

Fire-fighters were till late Wednesday night trying to control the fire that engulfed the tanks, loaded with spirit, in the NV distillery plant at Bhadoli village, 30 km from Ambala city in Haryana.

The distillery has Shailesh Patil, son of Punjab Governor and former union home minister Shivraj Patil, as a partner.

Ambala district police chief Bharti Arora told reporters that two workers were burnt to death while five or six suffered injuries due to the fire.

Ambala is 45 km from state capital Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, in the adjoining Punjab’s Patiala town, a fire in a chemical and ink factory Wednesday destroyed everything in the building.

No casualty was reported, and 50 workers of the factory were able to come out before the fire engulfed the factory, officials said.
