Child marriage prevented in Haryana

CHANDIGARH - The marriage of a 13-year-old boy with a minor girl was prevented Wednesday by the authorities in Haryana’s Sirsa town, an official said.

According to Sadhna Mittal, a lawyer and in-charge of the district child marriage prevention cell, Mangal Singh was being married to Kulwinder Kaur of Bada Jhanda village in Punjab, in Prem Nagar locality in Sirsa.

The girl’s age could not be ascertained.

The lawyer alerted the police, who arrived at the marriage venue.

Following warning of legal action, the groom’s family gave a written undertaking to the officials that they would not go ahead with the marriage.
