BP says it is investigating oil rig explosion
WASHINGTON — BP says it has begun its own investigation into the Gulf Coast oil spill, with more than 40 people looking into the cause of the April 20 explosion that killed 11 people and spilled millions of gallons of oil.
In testimony prepared for a congressional hearing Tuesday, BP says it is looking into what caused the explosion and fire, and why the so-called blowout preventer failed.
Lamar McKay, chairman and president of BP America, says the company has reached no conclusions about cause of the explosion but will share its findings. A copy of his testimony was obtained by The Associated Press.
