Woman kills herself, two kids

LUCKNOW - Driven by poverty, a woman committed suicide with her two children by jumping in front of a goods train in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad district, police said Saturday.

Kalawati, 35, a resident of Bikapur Village, jumped before the train Friday night with her son and daughter, aged 4-6 years. The three died on the spot.

“The woman took the extreme step owing to penury,” police inspector D.P. Tiwari said in Allahabad, some 200 km from Lucknow.

The police are looking for Awadhesh Kumar, the woman’s unemployed husband who used to allegedly beat her if she refused to work as a construction labourer.
