LUCKNOW - In a case of suspected honour killing, a man in his mid-20s was arrested Saturday in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district for allegedly murdering his sister’s lover. The accused man’s sister is now missing, police said.
“I hacked him for the sake of honour…I wanted to save the prestige of my family and, therefore, killed him,” Anuj Tomar, arrested from Nai Mandi town of Muzaffarnagar, told reporters Saturday.
According to police, Tomar’s sister Anshu was in a relationship with Ajit Saini, a BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) student. Both went missing around a week ago.
On the complaint of Saini’s family, the police started searching for the two. On Friday night, Saini’s mutilated body was found in the Nai Mandi town of Muzaffarnagar, some 350 km from Lucknow.
“We suspect the man who has confessed to killing the youth for honour also killed his sister,” district police chief Pravin Kumar told IANS by telephone from Muzaffarnagar, adding that they are still looking for the accused man’s sister who is missing.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the man committed the crime with help from his father and other family members,” he added.
