China storm toll rises to 31

CHONGQING - The toll from a storm in southwest China has risen to 31, officials said Friday.
The storm hit the Chongqing municipality Wednesday.
Twenty-one people were killed in Dianjiang county, six in Liangping county and four in Peiling district after gales destroyed their homes, Xinhua reported.
The gales and torrential rains have damaged Chongqing’s water facilities and a hydropower station.
It also caused economic losses of 121 million yuan ($17.7 million).
More than 100,000 residents in Chongqing were short of drinking water.
