RAMPUR - An assistant commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been suspended on suspicion of involvement in the arms smuggling racket busted in Uttar Pradesh last week, an official said Thursday.

“J.K. Mishra’s role is suspected in the cartridges scam that was busted by the Uttar Pradesh police’s Special Task Force. So, he has been suspended with immediate effect,” Deputy Inspector General (CRPF) M.K. Dubey told reporters here, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“We have initiated an enquiry against him and will take necessary action,” he added.

Police are yet to arrest Mishra.

Last week, the Uttar Pradesh police busted a racket involving CRPF personnel and policemen, who used to sell arms and ammunition from the armouries.

In all, six people - two CRPF troopers, three Uttar Pradesh police personnel and a retired sub inspector - were arrested on suspicion of supplying arms and ammunition to the Maoists.
