About 70 cows hurt or killed in Calif. truck crash
REDLANDS, Calif. — A big rig carrying cattle has overturned on Interstate 10 in Southern California, killing or injuring about 70 cows and closing the freeway’s eastbound lanes for several hours.
California Highway Patrol officials say the accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Redlands.
Officials say the truck was carrying about 160 cows. San Bernardino County Animal Control Chief Brian Cronin says veterinarians are examining the animals while crews cut off the top of trailer to get the remaining live animals out.
CHP investigators are looking for the cause of the crash.
No humans were hurt.
