BHOPAL - Police raided the residence of a Public Works Department (PWD) engineer here and found property documents and valuables worth over Rs.2 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income, officials said Wednesday.

“A team of the Special Police Establishment (SPE) raided Jitendra Kumar Bhasane’s residence Tuesday evening and started search operations which have so far yielded ownership documents of two plots valued at Rs.40 lakh each, apart from passbooks of different banks, ornaments and vehicles amounting to more than Rs.2 crore,” an official said.

“Bhasane’s wife, Bharti, had invested Rs.1.37 crore in various policies and had invested Rs.25.52 lakh in ICICI Prudential,” he added.

The team also found details of a bank locker which may be opened Wednesday to ascertain the value of the ornaments kept in it.

Bhasane is currently under suspension and the police have booked him under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
