Lithuania detains woman suspected of terrorism
VILNIUS, Lithuania — Lithuanian prosecutors say they have detained a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of plotting a suicide attack against an undisclosed Russian military target.
Prosecutor Justas Liaucius says Egle Kusaite was detained in October in an undercover operation after police received a tip about her alleged connections to Chechen rebels and radical Islamic groups.
Authorities had kept quiet about the case until releasing information about it at a court hearing on Tuesday.
Liaucius said Kusaite was trained to manufacture bombs and had tried to obtain a Russian visa.
Lithuanian prosecutors have denied reports she was supposed to take part in the March bombings that killed 40 people and wounded 121 in an attack in Moscow’s subway.
