LUCKNOW - A brother-sister duo was killed Monday when a speeding car in the motorcade of a legislator ran over them in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district, police said.

The accident took place along the Allahabad-Lucknow highway in Arkha village, some 80 km from Lucknow, when the vehicle in the motorcade of Raghuraj Pratap Singh spun out of control and hit Mahendra Kumar (30) and Meena (25), who were on a bicycle.

Singh represents Kunda assembly seat in Pratapgarh district.

“It is a case of rash driving. A case has been registered against driver Dinesh Kumar, who also received injuries as the vehicle rammed into a roadside tree after crushing the two,” Additional Superintendent of Police Saligram told reporters in Rae Bareli.

Eyewitnesses told police that the legislator did not bother to even stop his vehicle after the accident. According to police, the politician was in another vehicle.
