RAIPUR - Eleven inmates of a high-security juvenile detention centre in Chhattisgarh escaped Saturday night, police said Sunday.

The inmates, accused of murder and other serious crimes, were kept at the centre in Mana area on the outskirts of state capital Raipur.

“the 11 inmates threw chili powder in the eyes of a guard late in the night, broke open the iron grill of the centre and ran away,” S.L. Akhtar Khan, thana incharge of Mana area, told IANS.

He said the centre has high security measures in place but the inmates planned and executed their escape to dodge the security guards.

All police stations in Raipur district have been asked to look out for the escapees as the police believe the accused spent the night in nearby areas of Raipur town and would try to move out of the district Sunday.
