Woman Maoist surrenders in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR - A 19-year-old woman Maoist, accused in several cases of attacks, including one that killed at least 13 policemen, surrendered Saturday in Orissa’s Rayagada district, police said.

Manika Kumbruka alias Kumari was a deputy commander of one of the leading groups of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the state, district Superintendent of Police Anoop Krishna told IANS.

Rayagada is 390 km from here.

Kumbruka has confessed her involvement in several Maoist attacks, including on the police establishment at Nayagarh town in Feb 2008 that left 13 policemen dead.
