CHANDIGARH - Chandigarh Police arrested two youths from well-off families and recovered counterfeit currency totalling nearly Rs.20,000 from them, authorities said Saturday.

Amardeep Singh, 25, and Pargatjot Singh, 23, were arrested Friday night. They belong to Amritsar city.

“They were walking towards Sector 42. On seeing the police, they started running, raising our suspicion,” investigating officer Malkiat Singh said.

“We have recovered fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs.50 and Rs.100. They made these notes with a scanner, computer and printer. They were carrying a CPU with them.

“They say they had made fake currency only for the first time. But we will search the house in Mohali where they lived as paying guests,” he said.

Amardeep, son of a businessman, had studied engineering and planned to go abroad for higher studies. Pargatjot is a son of a government school teacher and was an engineering student.
