SRINAGAR - A civilian was critically injured in stone pelting in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar Saturday, police said.

“Miscreants hurled stones at a girls’ school in Batmaloo area of the city this (Saturday) morning,” a police officer told IANS.

“Muhammad Rafeeq, the school peon, was hit on the head by a stone hurled from outside the school, resulting in serious injuries to him,” the officer said.

On Friday, Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh, a peon with the state board of school education, was killed when a public transport vehicle he travelling in was attacked by stone pelters in the same area of the city. He was hit on the head by a stone, resulting in fatal injuries.

“We have registered a case of murder in yesterday’s (Friday) incident. Some anti-social elements have been identified who were responsible for attacking the vehicle,” the officer said.
