BHUBANESWAR - An Orissa court Thursday awarded life term to a man for raping and murdering a woman advocate last year in Bhadrak district, a lawyer for the prosecution said.

Fast track court judge Pradumna Kumar Nayak, based in Bhadrak town, 142 km from here, declared Chitta Ranajn Sahu, 36, guilty after examining 22 witnesses, lawyer Nilamani Swain told IANS.

Sahu raped and killed advocate Tapaswini Panda near Amargadia village in Bhadrak district April 28, 2009.

The victim was a lawyer in the Orissa High Court at Cuttack and Sahu was her client.

Police arrested Sahu after the last call to the victim’s mobile phone was traced to him. The accused confessed to committing the crime.
