More properties of medical council chief found

NEW DELHI - Two properties in Mumbai owned by Medical Council of India (MCI) chief Ketan Desai, arrested last week on charges of corruption, have been unearthed, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Tuesday.

Desai was arrested for fraudulently awarding recognition to a medical college in Punjab. Three others were also arrested and all are at present in the custody of the CBI.

\”We have recovered documents showing his possession of two properties in Andheri. His family owns five cars, including three high end vehicles - a. Toyota Camry, a Honda City and a Hyundai Sonata,\” CBI spokesman Harsh Bhal said here.

He said a search of third and fourth lockers, in the name of Desai, found gold and diamonds worth Rs. 38 lakh.

Earlier, the CBI had recovered documents showing Desai owned three more plots in in Gujarat, registered in his and his family members\’ names.

\”He was found to have investment of Rs. 20 lakh in Hindustan Home Finance Ltd. Two lockers contained gold worth Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 14 lakh respectively,\” the spokesman said, adding Desai had 13 bank accounts with a total of Rs.1.8 crore in them.
