MOHALI - A 20-year-old student drowned in the Siswan dam on the outskirts of this city while he was on an excursion trip with his friends, police said Monday.

The victim was identified as Parul Gupta, who was pursuing a diploma course in hotel management from a college in Chandigarh.

“Parul, a resident of phase III-A here, had gone to an excursion trip Sunday along with five friends. They first went to a temple and then started taking photographs near the Siswan dam,” Vijay Kumar, a police official, told IANS.

“He slipped and fell into the dam. Divers were called from Ropar (around 30 km from here) to fish out the body. We will hand over the body to the victim’s family after a post-mortem. We have registered a case and started investigations,” he added.
