6.9 quake hits Philippines

MANILA - A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale hit a sea area off the Philippines Monday, but there was no report of any casualty, a media report said.

The quake struck at 10.59 a.m. local time (0259 GMT) Monday, 271 km off the northwest coast of the Philippines near Batan Islands, Xinhua reported quoting the US Geological Survey.

The quake was also felt in Taiwan and the island’s seismological agency measured it at 6.6 on the Richter scale.
