NEW DELHI - Three malls were evacuated in Saket area of south Delhi Sunday after a news channel received a fax about a bomb in one of them. However, the threat turned out to be a hoax after a thorough search, police said.

“A news channel received a fax Sunday afternoon about a bomb in a mall in Saket area. Police were rushed there and three malls, adjacent to each other, were evacuated,” a police officer told IANS.

“The parking area was also sealed off. Hundreds of people had to wait outside the malls waiting for the search to end,” the officer added.

However, he refused to give the name of the news channel that received the fax.

There were huge crowds in the malls as it was a Sunday.

“The bomb disposal squad reached the spot. The information was declared hoax after a thorough search was conducted. The search took nearly two hours,” the officer said.

“Investigations are on to trace the person who sent the fax to the news channel. Nothing more can be revealed right now,” the officer said.
