Fire in Chandigarh office complex

CHANDIGARH - A major fire broke out Sunday in a shopping-cum-office complex here, gutting a restaurant of a leading chain and badly damaging some offices in the area, officials said.

The restaurant, Barbeque Nation, located on Madhya Marg in Sector 26 was gutted in the blaze.

According to officials, the fire was first noticed by people who work in a call centre in the market and they informed fire brigade officials.

“Our officials immediately reached the spot and managed to control the fire from spreading to the neighbouring showrooms. Eight fire brigade vans were pressed into service,” P.K. Sharma, chief fire officer, told reporters here Sunday.

“We have so far not ascertained the cause of this fire. However, preliminary investigations indicate an electrical short-circuit as the cause.”

Restaurant officials claimed the fire had caused a loss of several lakhs of rupees.
