LUCKNOW - An engineering student in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district suffered multiple injuries after he was allegedly ragged by his seniors, police said Saturday.

According to police, Manjeet Singh, a first year student, was taken to hospital after three seniors assaulted him with a blunt object Saturday afternoon.

“The student is out of danger. He has alleged that three seniors started beating him when he refused to obey their orders of introducing himself to a group of seniors,” Sub Inspector S.P. Chaudhary told reporters.

Moradabad is 350 km from Lucknow.

“A case has been registered against the three seniors,” he added.

The victim also accused the college’s private guards of not intervening.

College Proctor B.K. Singh told reporters: “We are yet to ascertain whether it is a case of ragging. We have initiated an enquiry.”
