LUCKNOW - A dreaded gangster, wanted by the police in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in 40 criminal cases, was Friday gunned down by cops near the Indo-Nepal border.

Ram Awadh Yadav, 45, was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Khadda town in Kushinagar district, about 300 km from Lucknow.

Cases of murder, abduction, loot and other heinous crimes were pending against him.

“After nearly an hour-long gun battle, we managed to shoot down Yadav while 12 of his associates escaped,” Superintendent of Police Luv Kumar told reporters in Kushinagar.

“We have come to know that he came to Kushinagar to kill a businessman,” he added.

Police recovered two rifles, a pistol and several live cartridges from Yadav’s possession.
