LUCKNOW - A sub-inspector, who kidnapped a minor girl, has been nabbed in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district Thursday, police said.
Rajesh Pandey, who is in his early 30s, was posted with the Reserve Police Lines in Faizabad, about 150 km from here.
Initially Pandey was arrested Wednesday after a police team rescued the 14-year-old girl from his residence. But he managed to escape with assistance from two policemen.
“The sub-inspector managed to give us the slip with the assistance of two other policemen, who have also been placed under suspension along with Pandey,” Superintendent of Police R.K.S. Rathore said.
“An enquiry has been initiated against Pandey and stern action will be taken against him,” he added.
The 14-year-old girl is a resident of Sultanpur district, about 180 km from here. Acting on a complaint by the girl’s father O.P. Dubey, a police team raided Pandey’s residence and rescued her.
According to police, Pandey had known Dubey ever since he was posted in Sultanpur. Even after his transfer to Faizabad, Pandey used to call up Dubey’s daughter, who went missing April 14.
Rape charges may be added to Pandey’s offence if it is proved. Medical reports of the girl are awaited, police added.
