BHOPAL - A businessman’s son was kidnapped from a Madhya Pradesh town and Rs.20 lakh has been demanded as ransom for his release, police said Wednesday.

A few people had contacted businessman Surendra Jain based in Panna town Tuesday for purchasing Mahua (a fruit plant used to make the local brew) and taken his son Ankur, 22, with them under the pretext of finalising the deal.

Later when Ankur did not return till late Tuesday night, Jain lodged a complaint with the police who found his motorcycle abandoned at an isolated place.

Meanwhile, Jain received a call from his son’s phone demanding Rs.20 lakh for Ankur’s release.

“A hunt has been launched to nab the culprits and secure the release of Ankur,” Panna Superintendent of Police K.B. Sharma told IANS.

Panna is some 500 km from Bhopal.
