Breaching whale capsizes Mass. canoe, drowning man
PROVINCETOWN, Mass. — A whale has leaped above the water and capsized a canoe in Massachusetts, drowning one of two men aboard the 12-foot vessel.
U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Connie Terrell says the men were left struggling in the cold water Wednesday morning after a whale breached near them. Biologists consider breaching a form of communication or play.
Terrell says the men were rescued by a vessel owned by a boat rental company in Provincetown.
The Cape Cod Times reports that a 47-year-old man drowned after the canoe capsized.
