BHUBANESWAR - More than 300 families were rendered homeless after a major fire broke out in Orissa’s Dhenkanal district Wednesday, an official said.

“More than 300 families have been affected in the devastating fire,” Kamakhyanagar sub-division sub-collector Babaji Charan Dash told IANS.

The fire broke out around 2 p.m. and spread in the entire Kanpura village, about 120 km from here. The cause of the fire was not yet known.

About 400 thatched houses were destroyed in the fire. Four fire tenders have been rushed to the spot to put out the blaze. “We have deployed four fire tenders to put out the fire. But due to wind, we are finding it difficult to control the fire,” he said.
