Student killed, 50 hurt as school bus falls into river

PATNA - At least one child was killed and 50 students were injured early Monday after their school bus skidded off a bridge and fell into a river in Bihar’s Kaimur district, police said.

The bus fell into a river near Bhabhua, about 160 km from here, police said.

“Ten of the 50 injured children are battling for life in hospital,” police said.

“One child died and dozens were injured after a school bus fell into a dry river bed,” a police officer said.

Angry over the incident, hundreds of local residents blocked roads to protest against the district administration’s apathy at providing medical aid to the injured children.

Protesting people also demanded compensation from the administration.
