Denied money to buy drugs, son kills father

KOLKATA - A drug addict killed his father after being refused money to buy drugs, police said Saturday.

The incident took place in West Bengal’s Nadia district Thursday when Kartik Haldar assaulted his father Nittya, 45, when the latter refused to give him money to buy ganja (cannabis), according to eyewitnesses.

They exchanged some heated arguments and Kartik suddenly hit Nittya with a sharp iron rod and fled.

When Kartik’s mother Anu, who was not at home, returned, she saw her husband lying in a pool of blood and shouted out, alerting the neighbours.

Nittya was admitted in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital but died Thursday evening, police said.

Kartik tried to escape from the village, but residents caught him and handed him over to the police.

Anu said her son was suffering from mental problems, apart from his drug addiction.
