NEW DELHI - K.D. Sharma, who was India’s high commissioner to Pakistan in 1980s, shot himself with his licensed revolver Thursday at his Preet Vihar home in east Delhi, police said.

“We received a call about the incident at 10 a.m.,” a police official said.

Sharma, 79, was the Indian high commissioner to Pakistan during President Zia-ul-Haq’s regime.

A suicide note has been recovered by the police. “The note said he was committing suicide because of his inability to cope with a stomach disease,” the police official added.

Sharma also served as Indian envoy in Mauritius and Spain.
