NEW DELHI - A 45-year-old businessman was injured after he opened a parcel delivered to him by an unidentified man at his southeast Delhi home Monday, police said.
Police suspect it to be a parcel bomb and believe personal enmity to be the reason behind the blast.
Mohammed Uzair was delivered a parcel by a courier delivery boy at his Shaheen Bagh residence in Jamia Nagar locality. He lives on the ground floor with his wife and two children.
A mild blast took place as Uzair opened the parcel. He suffered injuries to his face and hands.
Uzair was first rushed to the Holy Angels Hospital and then to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) before police arrived on the scene. His condition is stated to be stable.
The initial investigation points to the possibility of personal enmity behind the blast, Delhi Police’s spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.
A team of the crime branch, the special cell of the Delhi Police and forensic experts were inspecting the scene.
We are trying to ascertain the source of the parcel. We have some leads and are working on them, said an investigating officer.
The police are on the lookout for the boy who came to deliver the parcel. “We are not sure if the boy really belonged to some courier agency,” the official added.
